Proof that snakes can understand vocal commands !! Snakes most certainly can hear and they recognize their names and as you will witness in this video they also comprehend vocal commands !! I told Chewy to go see Dennis and visit him and without prompting Chewy he goes straight over to visit my guest and friend Dennis :)

The snake in this video is Chewy my big male Coastal Carpet Python that I've raised from a baby and he's 9 years old and a VERY social friendly snake that spends most of his time outside of his enclosure bonding with people.
To witness the individual personalities and behavior of your snakes you need to invest a lot of quality time with your snake learning from the snake about the snake and that's done through observation :o)

I have a few of my snakes out of their enclosures at night before I retire for the night because it's the greatest feeling in the world to show them that they matter to you and that you respect them and it means so much to know that you are giving your snakes the best possible life that they can live in a captive environment :o) It feels so good to know that your snakes are healthy, content and all eat on a regular basis and have clean enclosures and always have fresh water available. I can't go to sleep at night unless I'm sure that all of these things have had my full attention and my snakes are secure and comfortable each night because each of my snakes lives do matter to me :)

I spend tons of time handling my snakes and to learn more about your snakes you have to observe them and their personalities and how they respond to different things around them.
In this video you will see Jasmine (My Caramel Coastal Carpet Python) out socializing with people in my family and when we put her back into her enclosure (toward the end of the video) she retaliated with a temper display showing that she wasn't pleased with being taken away from people but put back into her enclosure. Snakes are fully capable of expressing their feelings in MANY different ways and to see these changes and different reactions you have to interact with your snakes and invest quality time with them. There is very little you will learn about each snakes personality by sitting and looking at them locked inside of an enclosure because they aren't being exposed to anything in their environment nor other living things. Mental stimulation is a vital part of a snakes growth and development :)
