Family: Travis is married to Lucy Ortmayer, whom he met at the Arnold in 2006, when he was an alternate. They now have a son, Mikhail Ryan Ortmayer, who is named after one of his best friends (Mikhail Koklyaev) who is also competing at this year's Arnold Strongman Classic. Mikhail Ortmayer was born on Nov. 4, 2009.

Miscellaneous: One of the greatest of all International strongmen, Travis is known for his phenomenal stone-lifting ability, and holds three records for stone lifting. As for how he got started: "I started lifting when I was 12 because I always loved weights and big people. I got into Strongman by accident. I was going to watch a friend compete and I decided the night before I wanted to try it. I ended up taking fifth in the Texas state championships." When he's not training and competing he likes to spend time outdoors, swimming and hiking, and he admits to watching a lot of strongman contests on TV. However, he's also a fan of classical music and loves to go to the symphony.

As for other sports, Ortmayer also played some rugby but had to quit when he found he was injuring too many people. As a child, "I did almost everything as a kid: baseball, soccer, basketball, although I never tried football. I wish I had." A fierce competitor, Travis said, "Nothing makes you feel more alive than a good contest. I also love the camaraderie in Strongman. The only way to win is by beating someone at his best, so give your opponents all the advice you can." Travis now devotes himself full-time to his strongman career and says his goal is to "not only be the greatest American Strongman ever, but the best in the World one day."
He noted recently: "I have done almost everything there is to do, aside from the actual planning, at the Arnold's Strongest Man competition. I was an equipment mover and alternate in 2006, competed in 2007, was the color commentator/announcer in 2008, and will be competing again in 2009. I love this competition!"
