Atlas stone 2010 Arnold Strongman Classic: three reps with the 533 lb stone in 52 seconds. Apollon's Axle Deadlift at All American Strongman Challenge: 848 lbs.

Miscellaneous: Brian emerged in 2010 as one of the dominant strongmen in the world with a second place finish at the TWI World's Strongest Man contest and as the highest point winner in the Strongman Super Series of Events. Shaw played college basketball at Black Hills State University. After finishing his basketball career, he needed something else to compete in and became interested in strongmen competitions. He entered a local competition in Colorado—the Denver's Strongest Man Competition—and won, with no formal training. Shaw explained the career move, stating, "I have always enjoyed watching strongmen and I did some research on how I could start doing competitions. I had always been very into training and strongman came very natural to me."

He also noted that he enjoys competing in strongman competitions because it represents the best test of overall body strength. "It is great to be able to test my strength against the strongest men in the world," Shaw said. Famous for his hand strength, Shaw wowed the Expo crowd last year with a grip demonstration using the Circus Dumbbell that brought the crowd to its feet.




At the 2010 TWI World's Strongest Man Contest, Shaw tied Savickas on overall points but was named the second place finisher because that contest uses the "countback" system to determine placings. According to Shaw, "We both got 2 first places, and then tied for first in the car deadlift. Zydrunas had a 2nd in keg toss and I had a third in loading and so that is what decided it. If you just looked at the head-to-head match-up over the six events I beat him in 3 of 6, he beat me in 2 of 6, and we tied in one." However, TWI like many sports events determined "countback" based on placings and so the victory went to Savickas. No doubt Shaw will be out for serious revenge at the Arnold.
